Qualifications / Education:

Bachelors/ Masters or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering

About 5 to 10 years work experience in Air Separation, Gas, Petrochemicals, Chemical or related industries in Process Engineering/Process Safety Engineering, out of which at least 5 years in Process Safety Engineering.

Experience as a Process Safety Lead Engineer for Basic & Detail engineering of at least one project on Ammonia, Methanol & Sulphur Recovery Plant is a necessity

Good leadership skills, good engineering problem-solving skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, with good commercial and fiscal awareness and actively seek lowest cost alternatives


Job Description

Air Products & Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an opening for a Sr. Process Safety Engineer to be located at our Engineering office in Vadodara, India.


Position Purpose

The successful candidate will work as part of the Execution Process Engineering team which is responsible for the Engineering of Process Gas Plants and Cryogenic Air Separation plants. Working with different Licensor packages is an added advantage.

The successful candidate to work closely with the Air Products Process Safety teams from other regions. The Process Safety team’s mission is to “Develop process safety standard, tools, programs, training and work processes and help in implementing them on a global basis to comply with corporate process safety risk criteria and policies.”

The Process Safety Engineer will use Air Products, regional and local regulatory process safety, fire protection, and security related standards/policies and will implement them working closely with the engineering, operations, and commercial teams.

Special emphasis is placed on new and emerging market technologies. The individual will support both product development as well as project execution activities.

During the engineering and execution phase of a project, the Process Safety Engineer will work as part of the project team providing appropriate deliverables, leadership, guidance, or information to other engineering and design disciplines, and supporting the commissioning and startup of the plant.  During the operation phase, the process safety engineer will support the operating team to implement Process Safety Management where required. 

The Process Safety Engineer will possess the skills to lead/participate in Hazard Reviews, Qualitative risk analysis, Quantitative risk analysis, Mechanical integrity consultation, Safety instrumented system analysis, Management of change, Process safety management, Operation readiness inspection, Security vulnerability assessment, Compliance Audit, and Process Safety training.


Responsibilities:

facilitate  provide support Process Hazard Reviews for projects and operating facilities to ensure adequate existing safeguards and recommend additional safeguards as required to meet safety targets.

Provide Process Safety input into product development efforts for all Ammonia, Methanol & Sulphur Recovery/ Air Separation/Hydrogen related products in team. Support creation of generic product documentation that can be used for project execution and bid development.

Participate / provide closure  specialized risk studies; including quantified risk analysis in conjunction with the global team for company risk assessment or regulatory requirements.

Develop and conduct global process safety standards, tools, programs, training courses, and work process.  Identify and implement continuous improvement efforts for improved process safety performance.

Provide global process safety consulting support and recommend optimal solutions to the engineering, operations, and commercial teams.

Execution of process safety requirements and to ensure compliance with Air Products standards and policies.

Assist in interpretation of national and local Process Safety Regulatory/Code requirements for the applicable Region where the facility is located.   Assist in assessment or review for regulatory and permitting process.

Participate in site reviews to evaluate third party exposure and perform Site Vulnerability Assessment for projects

Perform Root Cause Analysis and Accident Investigation (as requested) for incidents.

Experience and understanding of process engineering deliverables such as P&ID’s, safety relief demand scenarios, and basic function of unit operations is required.

Experience with instrumentation, process controls, and electrical design is preferred.

Travel to site in support of commissioning and start-up required.
